Oppenheimer: 3 Stocks That Could Surge Over 100% From Current Levels

So far, September has been a wild ride of ups and downs. Following the recent bout of volatility, stocks have ticked higher again. But as uncertainty regarding another rescue program and the presidential election continues to linger, where does the market go from here? Weighing in for Oppenheimer, Chief Investment Strategist John Stoltzfus argues that any market dips appear “relatively contained and orderly,” and present longer-term investors the chance to find “babies that got thrown out with the bathwater.” He noted, “For nervous investors the recent downdraft has presented opportunity to take some profits without FOMO (fear of missing out).”As for the tech heavyweights that powered the market’s five-month charge forward, the strategist believes “current expectations that technology stocks will remain under pressure for some time seem exaggerated.” Stoltzfus adds that the “core of technology stocks did not

Researchers on a path to build powerful and practical quantum computer

Angelena Iglesia

WASHINGTON — For the first time, researchers have designed a fully connected 32-qubit trapped-ion quantum computer register operating at cryogenic temperatures. The new system represents an important step toward developing practical quantum computers.

Junki Kim from Duke University will present the new hardware design at the inaugural OSA Quantum 2.0 conference to be co-located as an all-virtual event with OSA Frontiers in Optics and Laser Science APS/DLS (FiO + LS) conference 14 – 17 September.

Instead of using traditional computer bits that can only be a zero or a one, quantum computers use qubits that can be in a superposition of computational states. This allows quantum computers to solve problems that are too complex for traditional computers.

Trapped-ion quantum computers are among the most promising type of quantum technology for quantum computing, but it has been challenging to create these computers with enough qubits for practical use.

Terry Shawn Petrill, 48, of Myrtle Beach, pleaded guilty to theft of federal funds and was sentenced to two years in prison. He will also have to pay back more than $340,000 in restitution.

Federal officials say that between June 2015 and August 2018, Petrill ordered 41 computer network switches for Horry County. At that time, he was employed with the county.

A switch works similar to a home router and allows multiple computers to connect to the Internet.

The timetable of his crime coincided with various equipment being stolen from the Horry County IT Department, according to a police report, which states an IT worker learned of the missing items during an inventory.

Officials were mum after announcing the investigation and called in the FBI to assist.
