Ina Garten’s fans know they can count on the Food Network darling for simple, yet elegant, recipes and meal ideas for every home cook.

The ‘Barefoot Contessa’s newest book is her 12th publication

Modern Comfort Food will be Ina Garten’s twelfth cookbook. She’s published eleven other popular recipe collections, including Barefoot Contessa Parties!; Barefoot in ParisBarefoot Contessa at HomeCooking for Jeffrey, written for her husband, Jeffrey; and her most recent cookbook, Cook Like a Pro.

The popular home chef noted on her website about her new book, “There are few things more comforting than gathering for a meal with the ones you love, especially when dishes like Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas are at the center of the table. Old-fashioned crowd pleasers like Roasted Sausages, Peppers, and Onions are even more delicious and streamlined for quick cleanup.”

And Garten doesn’t stop there. You didn’t think she’d forget the dessert, did you?

“For dessert?,” her website continues in its description of Modern Comfort Food. “You’ll find the best Boston Cream Pie, Banana Rum Trifle, and Black and White Cookies you’ll ever make. Home cooks can always count on Ina’s dependable, easy-to-follow instructions, with lots of side notes for cooking and entertaining – it’s like having Ina right there beside you, helping you all the way.”

Ina Garten has been busy even while in quarantine

If you take a look at Garten’s Instagram account, it’s obvious from her oversized (some would say right-sized) cocktails, her clean-out-your-cupboards frittatas, and glorious homemade marshmallows on the equally glorious S’Mores, that the Food Network legend has been busy.

That doesn’t mean, however, that the pandemic we’re all struggling through hasn’t thrown the usually poised Garten for a loop.

In a conversation with PBS NewsHour, the Brooklyn-born Garten opened up about the difficulty of living with so much uncertainty.

“I think I try and keep as normal life as I can,” the 72-year-old said. “I’m really lucky that I work at home. I’m really lucky that I live with somebody who I want to live with, which is wonderful.”

“But every once in a while,” Garten admitted, “it creeps in and you think, oh, my goodness, this is overwhelming, what’s happening outside, and what’s happening to people, and how long is this going to go on for? And then you just shut it down. And I do as much as I can to try and keep my life as normal as possible.”

A sneak peek at Ina Garten’s upcoming cookbook

Garten’s forthcoming recipe collection, Modern Comfort Food, was unknowingly planned to publish in a year most in need of comfort food. Ready for readers on October 6, 2020, the cookbook is sure to hit the spot for many home cooks.

The beloved chef teased a recipe from the book on her Instagram account recently saying, “Sneak peek! This Salmorejo soup is like gazpacho but puréed with bread to thicken it. Yum! It’s also from my new book Modern Comfort Food which is available October 6th. Right from the farmstand to your dinner table with – no cooking at all, unless you count toasting the croutons as cooking!  #treatyourself #moderncomfortfood”

“Comfort” and “food,” two items high on everyone’s menu lately, and as usual, the Barefoot Contessa knew what we needed just in time.
